Olympiacos vs. Fiorentina – Match Preview, Prediction
Greek giants Olympiacos take on last year’s runners-up Fiorentina this Wednesday evening for the 2023-24 Europa Conference League final in Athens.
The AEK Arena, where the match will take place, is just 10 miles from Olympiacos’ home. Fiorentina, seeking revenge for last year’s painful defeat in Prague, will be aiming to spoil the party.
After nine days of preparation, Olympiacos coach Jose Luis Mendilibar has a fully fit squad at his disposal, including former Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic who recently recovered from injury.
Jovetic, who scored 40 goals for Fiorentina between 2008 and 2013, scored a late goal in the derby against Panathinaikos to secure Europa Conference League qualification for Olympiacos, although he is unlikely to start. Instead, Daniel Podence and Kostas Fortounis are expected to support star striker Ayoub El Kaabi, the top scorer in European competitions this season.
Goalkeepers Konstantinos Tzoulakis, recently called up to the Greek national team, and Panagiotis Retsos will partner David Carmo in defence. Only Nelson Abe and Gelson Martins will not be in the squad, while Argentine full-back Francisco Ortega is back to compete for a starting spot with Quini.
