Euro 2024 – Hungary vs Switzerland | Match Info, Preview & Lineup

Hungary and Switzerland are set to begin their Euro 2024 journeys with a Group A match at RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne on Saturday afternoon.

Joining them in Group A are Scotland and hosts Germany, who will kick off the tournament in Munich on Friday night. Hungary’s captain, Dominik Szoboszlai, had a minor hamstring issue during a friendly win over Israel but is fit and ready to play. The Liverpool midfielder will be in an advanced role alongside Roland Sallai, who is about to earn his 50th cap.

Coach Rossi is likely to use a 3-4-2-1 formation, featuring Adam Lang, Willi Orban, and Attila Szalai in central defense, with experienced goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi behind them.

Loic Nego and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez are expected to serve as wing-backs, with Adam Nagy and Andras Schafer in midfield. Barnabas Varga, who netted 29 goals for Ferencvaros last season, is set to lead the attack.

For Switzerland, Steven Zuber suffered a calf injury during a friendly against Austria and only managed individual training on Wednesday, making his participation on Saturday uncertain. However, Monaco’s Breel Embolo and Denis Zakaria have recovered from their injuries and joined team training, potentially making the matchday squad.

Key players such as captain Granit Xhaka, Manuel Akanji, and Xherdan Shaqiri are expected to start, along with Burnley striker Zeki Amdouni, who has scored seven goals in 15 international appearances.
