Afghanistan in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup

After defeating Bangladesh, Afghanistan entered the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup for the first time. In Monday’s rain-affected match, Afghanistan were defeated by 8 runs on the basis of Duckworth Lewis.

While Afghanistan reached the semi-finals, Australia was eliminated from the tournament. Australia has been eliminated from the Super Eight stage after losing to Afghanistan and India.

In Group 1, India won the group with 6 points, while Afghanistan, second in the group, had 4 points in 3 matches. Australia finished third with 2 points, while Bangladesh did not add any points.

Afghanistan will face South Africa to enter the final. India and England will meet in the next semi-final. In DL, Bangladesh had to score 114 runs in 19 overs to win. But with 7 balls remaining, Bangladesh were reduced to 150 runs. For Bangladesh, opener Liton Das remained unbeaten at the crease from the beginning to the end of the innings. But on the other hand, he could not get past Bangladesh after falling wickets continuously.

Liton Das scored 54 runs off 49 balls. The performance of other batters was not good. Tohid Hrudaye’s 14 runs was the second highest score. Naveen-ul-Haq and Rashid Khan took 4 wickets each for Afghanistan. Fazal Haque Farooqui and Gulbadin Naib took 1 wicket each. Before that, Afghanistan won the toss and scored 150 runs after losing 5 wickets in 20 overs.

Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 43 runs off 55 balls. Rashid Khan scored 19 runs while Ibrahim Zadran scored 18 runs. For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain took 3 wickets and Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman took 1 wicket each.
