Argentina in the Copa America knockout stage
By winning their second consecutive match, Argentina has advanced to the knockout stage of the Copa America in the United States.
In a Group ‘A’ match held on Wednesday morning at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Argentina defeated Chile 1-0. The decisive goal was scored by substitute player Lautaro Martinez near the end of the match.
Martinez scored in the 88th minute. In injury time, he missed an opportunity to add another goal from an Angel Di Maria pass.
Under the captaincy of Lionel Messi, Argentina now has 6 points from two matches. In their first match, Argentina defeated Canada 2-0. Chile was held to a goalless draw by Peru in their first match.
In another match of this group, Canada defeated a 10-man Peru 1-0. The decisive goal for Canada was scored by Jonathan David in the 74th minute, assisted by Jacob Shaffelburg.
Earlier in the match, Peru was reduced to 10 players in the 59th minute when Miguel Araujo was shown a red card. In the next matches of the group, Argentina will play against Peru, and Canada will face Chile.
